Omphalodes Cappadocica Starry Eyes : A tufted perennial with a bushy, creeping habit growing 6-8" high which features thick clumps of ovate to lanceolate leaves and sprays of forget-me-not-like, 5-petaled, 1/3" diameter flowers in loose racemes rising above the foliage in late spring.
Flower petals have deep blue, center-stripe markings which radiate from the center of the flower, lending a star-like effect. Petal edges are initially pink maturing to white. Species is commonly called navelwort or navelseed in reference to the shape of the seed (a hard, grooved nutlet).
Easily grown in fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soil in part shade to full shade. Tolerates some drought. Rhizomatous. Place in a shaded part of the border, rock garden or woodland garden. Can be used as an interesting, non-invasive groundcover.
